GOVERNOR David M. Apatang on Thursday nominated former Rep. Sheila J. Babauta and former Board of Education Chair Janice A. Tenorio to the Northern Marianas College Board of Regents.
If confirmed by the Senate, Babauta will fill the seat of former board chairman Charles V. Cepeda, while Tenorio will succeed former Regent Irene T. Torres, who represented the private sector on the board.
Cepeda’s term expired on May 29, 2025, while Torres’s term expired on May 29, 2024.
In separate letters to Senate President Karl King-Nabors, the governor said he and Lt. Gov. Dennis James Mendiola are confident that Babauta and Tenorio, who is also a former board chair of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., are qualified and will be assets to the Board of Regents.
In his appointment letters to Babauta and Tenorio, Apatang reiterated that he and Mendiola are confident the two nominees are highly qualified and will contribute to the board’s work.
The current members of the NMC Board of Regents are chairman Dr. Jesse Tudela of Saipan; vice chair Elaine Hocog Orilla, Rota; Michelle Sablan, Saipan; and William M. Cing, Rota.
