Judge David Wiseman increased the original $3,750 bail order he imposed on Don Pangelinan Sanchez Jr., 28, to $25,000; and imposed $5,000 bail each on John Carlo Guartiano Sanchez, 25, Kelvin Cabrera Sanchez, 23, and Joaquin Vargas Sanchez, 20. Police did not mention the defendants’ relationship.
The four were being held on charges of disturbing the peace, riot, assault, and assault and battery.
Don Sanchez, also known as JJ, was additionally charged with contempt of court.
Chief Prosecutor Michael Ernest represented the government, while Assistant Public Defender Matthew Meyer was appointed as defense counsel. The court will appoint additional attorneys for the remaining defendants.
Detective Raymond Borja said police were dispatched to a disturbance on Magician Bay Ave. in Dandan on Oct. 10, 2011, at about 1:42 a.m.
The victim told police he wanted to file an active complaint against Don Sanchez.
The victim said he and some friends were hanging out at his niece’s house eating, when five individuals approached his location, began cussing them, and calling them out for a fight.
The victim told police he saw John Sanchez holding what the victim described as a machete.
The victim said Don Sanchez ran toward him, and punched him several times on the face. Kelvin Sanchez tackled the victim to the ground and punched the victim too, police said.
The victim’s mother tried to help, but was pushed by Carlos Sanchez and fell to the ground.
The victim’s father tried to help, but was pushed twice by Carlos.
The father told the defendants to go home, but they threatened they would kill the victim, police said.
Don Sanchez also threatened to kill the father, police said.
A brother of the victim helped the victim who had blood on the left side of his head and scratches on his face.
After the incident, the father said Don’s girlfriend and an auntie came to their house and apologized.
They asked them to forgive Don who was out on bail as the land used for his bond would be taken away by the government and his children would have no place to go, police said.
Don Sanchez was arrested last May for “ice” trafficking.
