Fourkan gets suspended sentence

Superior Court Judge David A. Wiseman imposed a sentence of 30-day imprisonment, all suspended.

The Attorney General’s Office originally charged Fourkan with assault with dangerous weapon, assault, and disturbing the peace.

In the first amended complaint, the charge of assault with a dangerous weapon using a vehicle was dropped.

As part of the plea agreement, the remaining charge was dismissed by the court.

Fourkan will write a letter of apology to his victim.

He will pay a $250 fine, a $25 court assessment fee, and a $60 probation fee.

Fourkan and his victim Balai Chandra Barman were employed by two marine sports companies with counters on adjacent beaches between the Hyatt and Fiesta hotels.

On Feb. 28, 2010, potential customers approached Fourkan’s counter to ask about his prices. Barman later approached Fourkan’s counter and confronted him about the customers who, Barman claimed, had booked with the victim.

An argument ensued that led to Fourkan pushing  Barman away from his counter. No other details were available.

Assistant Attorney General Russel Lorfing prosecuted the case while Assistant Public Defender Benjamin Petersburg served as Fourkan’s counsel.
