Children got hands-on talaya practice at Micro Beach during a previous workshop.
DAVID Cabrera, the program director of Talaya Club, said registration for the free “Cast and Cook” talaya clinic at Micro Beach is still ongoing. The one-day-only clinic is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 2, and is coordinated in partnership with the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation’s Let’s Move Marianas program.
Cabrera said the clinic, which will have two sessions of instructions, is a perfect opportunity to get children active and enjoying nature.
Participants should be between the ages of 10 and 14. There is no cost to register or participate. Nets will be provided.
The first session starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 1:15 p.m. while the second session is set from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Cabrera said there are seven available slots left for the morning session, and 10 available slots left in the afternoon session.
To register, go to https://tinyurl.com/3rffa2uf for the morning session or https://tinyurl.com/sm7vz9nt for the afternoon session.
The pick-up and drop-off area is behind the old baseball field.
Cabrera said participants will learn cast-net fundamentals, species targeting, and sustainable fishing techniques.
He said if participants catch fish, organizers will show them how to turn their catch into a healthy dish.
To promote sustainability, Cabrera is requesting that participants bring their own reusable water containers. Talaya Club will provide water.
