Freedom Air wants to pay lower lease rate for airport hangar

In a proposal submitted to CPA, Freedom Air general manager Joaquin Flores said they are “very interested” in leasing the hangar for their aircraft maintenance and cargo operations.

The company said it can pay $750 per month for the first five years of the lease agreement.

The standard lease for the hangar is 15 years subject for renewal every five years.

CPA charged Taga Air $1,000 a month.

Flores said they are asking for a  lower rate due to the costs that the company will incur when it repairs the facility.

“This hangar needs a lot of repair work to bring it to workable and safe condition,” he said. “We are willing to do all repair work at our own cost.”

According to Flores, they want to lease the facility for 15 years.

One of Freedom Air’s 30-seat aircraft is due for a “mid-life inspection” that will require the disassembling of the plane.

The inspection will take about six to eighth months and Freedom Air needs to bring in 20 people from abroad to complete it.

CPA acting Executive Director Lee Cabrera said he met with Freedom Air officials last Monday.

“We’re currently negotiating the details of the agreement. Freedom Air wants to use the facility but CPA is trying  to maximize its revenue collections,” Cabrera said.
