SURROUNDED by friends, family, and supporters in the Senate on Monday, Herman B. Cabrera was honored on his 80th birthday with Senate Resolution 24-9, recognizing him as the “first Saipan-born Chamorro licensed architect in the CNMI.”
The resolution, introduced by Senate President Karl King-Nabors, states that Cabrera, armed with a degree in architecture as well as trade-architectural design and drafting, began his professional career during the Trust Territory era.
It also notes that Cabrera “holds the noble distinction of being the first Saipan-born Chamorro native licensed to practice architecture in the Commonwealth, helping to establish a profession of architects during a time when the newly formed CNMI was experiencing significant economic growth, while providing his clients with architectural designs that are inspiring, affordable, and aesthetically suited to our geographical conditions.”
Cabrera expressed his gratitude for the honor.
“I am deeply humbled and grateful for this legislative resolution in my honor,” he said.
Cabrera shared that some of the work he has been a part of includes the Chalan Kanoa Kiosku and Rota’s Pona Point Cliff Line. He said a future project he is eyeing is to develop Mt. Tapochao into a “hub for our locals and visitors.” He envisions designing a recreational park that highlights the mountain’s 360-degree view of Saipan.
