MOBIL Oil Marianas and Shell Marianas reduced their fuel prices by 10 cents on Thursday and Friday, respectively, a week after the third fuel price hike this year.

The regular gasoline price on Saipan went down to $5.46 a gallon from $5.56 a gallon; Mobil Oil’s premium gas price dropped to $5.91 a gallon from $6.01 a gallon; and the price of diesel was reduced to $5.83 a gallon from $5.93 a gallon.

As of Sunday, Tinian Fuel Services’ regular gas and diesel prices were still $7.34 a gallon and $7.68 a gallon.

On Rota, as of Sunday, the regular gas and diesel prices stood at $6.94 a gallon and $10.07 a gallon.

The gas stations on Tinian and Rota will adjust their fuel prices as soon as their new supply arrives.

Community volunteer Max Aguon, who receives free gas from CMG San Jose Mobil Gas Station for his islandwide cleanup activities, said fuel prices remain high and motorists must control their consumption of gas.

Drive only when necessary or when doing an important errand, Aguon said.

Business Recorder reported on Sunday that oil prices “fell nearly 3% lower on Friday and posted a weekly decline after a U.S. central bank policymaker indicated interest rate cuts could be delayed by at least two more months.”

Brent crude futures declined by $2.05, or 2.5%, at $81.62 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures or WTI were down $2.12, or 2.7%, to $76.49, Business Recorder said.

“For the week, Brent declined about 2% and WTI fell more than 3%. However, indications of healthy fuel demand and supply concerns could revive prices in the coming days,” Business Recorder added.
