Press Secretary Angel A. Demapan told Variety that the GAO officials were on Guam during the past few days.
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial appointed Ivan Blanco of the Department of Commerce as the CNMI point of contact for the GAO.
Demapan said Blanco will be the person overseeing the delegation’s visit.
The GAO, which is the investigative arm of the U.S. Congress, will assess migrant population data, the impact of reports prepared by the CNMI and the other jurisdictions and the federal response to the impact of immigration from the Compact nations or the Freely Associated States: Palau, the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia.
The GAO expects to report its findings by the end of the year.
Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan, who requested an evaluation of the Compact-Impact aid, informed Gov. Benigno R. Fitial last month about the GAO visit.
