Golden Harvest Christmas tree decorating coordinator Liz Espiritu said they were “very happy.” It was the first time to join the annual competition.
“We had a very hectic time doing all the ornaments from recycled items within one month but our efforts paid off,” Espiritu said. They will use their prize money for special school projects.
Garnering 394 points and winning $3,000 is second place Oleai Elementary School, followed by Joshua Generation International Academy which won $2,000 for placing third with 389 points.
RNV Construction Inc., Kinpachi Restaurant and Country House Restaurant donated the prizes for the top three winners.
Winning $1,000 each were Koblerville Elementary School with 376 points, Saipan Community School with 372 points and Dandan Elementary School with 370 points. Their prizes were donated by Moby Dick Restaurant, Furusato Restaurant and Kinpachi Restaurant.
Receiving $500 each were consolation prize winners Kagman Elementary School, William Reyes Elementary School, Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School, San Antonio Elementary School, Tanapag Elementary School, San Vicente Elementary School, Green Meadow School, Agape Christian School, Garapan Elementary School, and Grace Christian Academy.
This year’s participants decorated their 9-foot Christmas trees with ornaments fashioned out of recycled materials such as soda cans, Styrofoam, milk cartoons, and other materials on Dec. 1. The following day, a panel of judges rated the Christmas trees.
