Golf tournament at Aging Center today

Aging Center program coordinator Walter Manglona said the event will help raise funds for the various programs of the Senior Citizens Advisory Council.

The tournament entrance fee is $5  for each male and $2 for each female congregate.

Manglona said 10 percent of the total collection will go directly to the council’s funds.

Teresita Sorroza, the council president, said they are hoping to generate funds for their annual travel program next year.

Last week, Sorroza said they received a $2,000 Christmas gift from the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands.

“They really have big concern for the elderly. They’ve always treated us in a very special way,” she said, referring to HANMI members.

This Thursday, Sorroza said they will have a special birthday celebration at the center with Jum Gebhard, the wife of James Gebhard, general manager of Pacific Amusement Inc., which has been giving assistance to the congregates.

Last June, Pacific Amusement Inc. donated one bingo machine to the center, she said.

Sorroza said the Gebhards want to join the congregates in their celebration because “we are close to their heart.”
