GOP wants to ensure party discipline

Some Republicans who abandoned their gubernatorial ticket in the November runoff showed up at the GOP meeting held at the Garapan Central Park on Thursday last week.

Dave Attao, after being reelected as party president, said he respects the choices that were made by some of his party mates in the runoff, but he also believes that the GOP leadership needs to ensure the members’ loyalty to the party.

He is also hoping that the “wounds” inflicted on the party by the last elections will soon heal.

Attao admitted that the GOP by-laws right now “lack the teeth” to ensure party discipline. He believes the by-laws were created simply to comply with Republican National Committee rules.

In the next few days, a committee will be formed to draft amendments to the by-laws regarding party discipline.

The GOP is fielding a candidate for the delegate election in November, but so far, only former Gov. Juan N. Babauta has submitted a letter of intent.
