Government urged to help Alamagan typhoon victims

According to the Santoses, like them, the people who were left behind must have lost everything.

“They may be homeless and with no food to eat,” they said.

The family is currently sheltered at the Red Cross center and are very thankful of the help given to them by the Red Cross.

They also expressed gratitude to their friends who have visited them at the shelter.

But they said they have no idea what would happen to them after a few months.

For their basic necessities, the family relies on donations, food stamps and vouchers given to them by the Red Cross.

The parents said they would want to send their children to school soon even though the new school year has already begun.

Taotao Tano leader Greg Cruz, who visited the family on Wednesday, said he is going to look for ways to help them re-build their home on Alamagan.

“The family needs assistance for the reconstruction of their house,” Cruz said. “They should be provided materials.”

Cruz said it is questionable why the government has no funds left for the typhoon victims.

The government should set aside funds for emergency cases like typhoons, he said.

He added that the Northern Island Mayor’s Office must be responsible for the well-being of the residents there.
