Governor applauds Cultural Immersion Summer Youth Camp at Carolinian Utt

(Office of the Governor) — Gov. Arnold I. Palacios proudly commends the ongoing Cultural Immersion Summer Youth Camp, hosted by the CNMI Indigenous Affairs Office, as an exemplary initiative that celebrates and preserves the indigenous heritage of the Commonwealth.

The month-long youth camp, which runs from July 7 to August 1, 2025, is being held at the Carolinian Affairs Office on Saipan, and welcomes children between the ages of 5 and 12. Each day from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., young participants engage in hands-on activities that introduce and deepen their understanding of Chamorro and Carolinian cultures  — from traditional arts and crafts to language, music, and oral history.

“It brings me great pride to see our children learning the ways of our ancestors, guided by the wisdom of cultural practitioners and master artisans,” said Governor Palacios. “This camp is more than a summer activity — it’s a bridge between generations and a powerful investment in the future of our community.”

The Governor extends his heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff of the Indigenous Affairs Office, to the cultural mentors who generously share their knowledge, and to the families who encourage their children to embrace and celebrate their identity.

“This remarkable program reflects the values we hold dear in the CNMI—connection, heritage, and unity. I urge our community to continue supporting efforts like this that uplift indigenous knowledge and strengthen cultural pride,” Governor Palacios added.

The Cultural Immersion Summer Youth Camp is supported through local legislation, including House Local Bill 24-3, which prioritizes cultural programming throughout the Marianas.

The Governor concluded, “On behalf of the Commonwealth, I thank everyone involved in this camp for nurturing our youth and protecting the richness of our traditions.

“Together, we build a resilient and culturally grounded CNMI.”
