The Senate must confirm Ada’s nomination before he can join Fitial’s cabinet.
The governor’s office told Senate President Pete P. Reyes, R-Saipan, that Ada will submit his resumé, financial statement, drug test receipt and results as well as other information the senators might ask of him.
“The lt. governor and I are confident that Mr. Ada will be an asset to our administration and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands,” the governor told Reyes. “I respectfully request your favorable action on this appointment.”
Ada was the deputy secretary of Commerce before Fitial named him the acting head of the department last Friday.
In his letter to Ada, the governor expressed his confidence in him and added, “Your willingness to serve your people is most appreciated.”
Santos is the husband of Lt. Gov. Tim P. Villagomez’s sister.
The three will face a jury trial in the federal court on Oct. 6.
