Governor expects more Korean tourists

THE CNMI government expects the South Korean tourism market to further grow, Gov. Juan N. Babauta said during an interview with Korean economic travel journalists.

Despite Korean Air’s decision to reduce its weekly service from seven to four flights, visitor arrivals from Korea continue to increase, he said.

“We are optimistic (but) we know we must invest more to promote and advertise,” Babauta told the Korea Travel Information News, the Korea Tourism Press, the Travel Times and the Maeil Economy.

The interview was held during a luncheon at Grand Hyatt in Seoul.

Babauta said there will be more commonwealth “presence” in South Korea.

The CNMI government will be more active through public relations activities coupled with more support for the airlines and travel industry partners, he added.

From 1994 to 2000, the number of Koreans visiting the CNMI totaled 678,343 or 16.37 percent of the 4,144,612 tourists that came in during the seven-year period.
