SIX months after being sworn into office, Gov. Juan N. Babauta remains in “excellent” physical condition, according to a doctor who conducted an extensive physical examination of the CNMI’s chief executive.
Dr. Janna Wilgos says she is “happy to report that (the governor) is enjoying excellent health.”
Wilgos, in a press conference yesterday, said the examination was the governor’s first in seven years.
An internist at the Commonwealth Health Center, Wilgos said Babauta’s blood pressure was 128/70. His blood sugar count/level was 90, which is significantly lower than the standard 110 level.
Blood samples were taken to determine his cholesterol level and the presence of cancer-causing cells. A urinalysis was also conducted.
The governor, moreover, underwent an echocardiogram and chest X-ray examination.
Babauta was also asked to submit to treadmill and stress tests.
Although the governor is in good condition, Wilgos said Babauta should also practice “preventive medicine.”
“To keep illnesses at bay, you should practice a healthy balance of work and leisure,” Wilgos said.
A stressful job and long hours of work are among the major factors that cause heart diseases and diabetes, she said.
Babauta said he underwent physical and medical examination to serve as an example to other government officials.
“I want to promote and encourage exercise and good eating habits,” Babauta said.
