GOVERNOR Arnold I. Palacios on Thursday nominated former Sen. Sixto K. Igisomar to serve as Department of Public Lands secretary.

His nomination requires Senate confirmation.

Igisomar was DPL secretary during the administration of Gov. Ralph DLG Torres. He succeeded former DPL Secretary Marianne Concepcion-Teregeyo, who was appointed by Torres to oversee the CNMI’s recovery program in May 2021.

In his appointment letter to Igisomar, Palacios said he and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang are confident that Igisomar “will devote his time and efforts to the best interest of all our people.”

In a separate letter to Senate President Dennis James C. Mendiola, the governor said they are confident that Igisomar is qualified to fulfill the vital responsibilities of DPL.

A former Commerce secretary, Igisomar has a background in business development and corporate governance. He is a licensed general consultant and a former executive in the insurance industry.

The DPL secretary position will become vacant once Secretary Teresita A. Santos’ resignation takes effect April 11, 2025.

Santos, who was appointed in February 2023, submitted her resignation to the governor last month and went on leave beginning March 20, 2025 and ending on April 11, 2025.
