Governor nominates Mafnas to Department of Commerce

GOVERNOR Arnold I. Palacios on Friday nominated Registrar of Corporations Remedio C. Mafnas to be the next Department of Commerce secretary.

Right now, the acting Commerce secretary is Frank Cabrera.

In his appointment letter to Mafnas, the governor said he and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang are confident that she is qualified and will be an asset to the CNMI.

“Your willingness to serve our people is most appreciated,” the governor said.

In his letter to Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero, the governor said he and the lt. governor are confident that Mafnas is “qualified to fulfill the vital responsibilities of this office.”

The governor’s nomination requires the consent of the Senate.

No other information about the nominee was available as of press time Wednesday.
