GOVERNOR Arnold I. Palacios on Monday approved House Bill 23-75, which appropriates $13,401 in special casino gross revenue tax for Rota.

The amount is what’s left of Rota’s share of the special casino gross revenue tax that was collected from Imperial Pacific International in 2018.

Authored by Rep. Julie Marie Ogo, H.B. 23-75 is now Public Law 23-16.

It appropriates the money to the Rota Department of Public Safety for fuel and operations expenses. The new law prohibits the reprogramming of the fund for any other purpose and requires that the fund be available without fiscal limitation.

In 2018, the Department of Finance collected $15 million casino gross revenue tax from IPI. Of this amount, $1.2 million was each allotted to Rota and Tinian by P.L. 20-61.
