The Senate hasn’t acted on Inos’ nomination for more than two months now.
A law prohibits the governor from renominating a political appointee after a certain period of time if there is no Senate action on the nomination.
“But I will resubmit the nomination,” said Fitial in an interview on Saturday. He did not say what were the “technicalities” that compelled him to withdraw the nomination.
But he expressed hope that the Senate will confirm Inos who is from Rota.
Senators, however, have expressed concern about the lack of funding for Inos’ position.
An associate judge gets an annual salary of $120,000.
Inos will serve a six-year term if confirmed and will fill the post vacated by retired Judge Juan T. Lizama who is now one of nine candidates for the first CNMI congressional election.
Inos earned his law degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law.
He used to be a teacher and worked as an assistant attorney general for the criminal division of the Attorney General’s Office.
He was also an associate attorney at the Law Office of John A. Manglona, now an associate justice of the CNMI Supreme Court.
Inos is the son of Rota Mayor Joseph S. Inos.
