Governor urges community to help solve murder cases

Governor Juan N. Babauta is asking the community to help the police solve murder cases.

“I know that many of these violent crimes are difficult to solve,” he said, “and that’s why the lieutenant governor and I take this opportunity to encourage the entire community to (come forward and assist the authorities).”

The Department of Public Safety confirmed that as of Friday, 27 homicide cases still remain unsolved. Some occurred five years ago.

Babauta said individuals who have knowledge about any of these unsolved murders will be assured of their “security.”

“If anyone knows any information that may be helpful to the police, please call the Crime Stoppers or the Department of Public Safety,” Babauta said.

Attorney General Robert T. Torres said detectives and investigators of DPS and his office are closely coordinating to solve these cases.

“We all know that these cases were not solved because the evidence was not there from where these crimes took place,” Torres said. “But someone out there knows the information. Someone knows what happened to these people,” Torres added.

It was the governor who, on Friday, issued the latest homicide bulletin.

Bulletin number 9 involves the case of 18-year-old Clara Matagolai Igisomar.

Igisomar was reported missing by his family on March 28, 1990.

DPS conducted an islandwide search on March 31, 1990. Three days later, the team found the victim’s “badly decomposing body” in the jungle along Suaso Beach, below Coral Ocean Point’s golf course.

Autopsy showed that the victim died of “ligature strangulation.”

“Please help us bring Clara’s assailants to the gates of justice,” Babauta said.
