Gov’t employees urged to join Aqua Walk

JAPAN’S Walking Association will hold the CNMI’s first ever Aqua Walk on June 22.

Gov. Juan N. Babauta, in a memorandum Monday, encouraged all government employees to “challenge themselves” and participate in the aqua, or ocean, walk.

“I am encouraging all government agencies to cooperate and participate in such event. I am also encouraging all employees to participate in the events scheduled throughout the day,” Babauta said.

Babauta was invited by Pacific Development, Inc. to participate in the Aqua Walk.

PDI and the Saipan Walking Association, or Sawai, said at least 17 participants from Japan have already confirmed their participation.

The June 22 walk will start at 9 a.m. from Town House to Chalan Kanoa Beach Hotel.

A similar activity, called the Sunset Walk, will be held at 4 p.m. and joined by cyclists.

“The Japan walking association in its first ever endeavor has requested to do a tryout Aqua Walk in the CNMI,” PDI General Manager Yoichi Matsumura said in his invitation to Babauta.

“We are very excited to entertain such program and we are hoping the event would be successful so that we may continue to entertain other walking associations that are beginning to show interest in this newest form of physical fitness program fostering public health and friendship as well,” Matsumura said.
