Charles Hester, the instructor contracted by the Pacific Islands Training Initiative, USDA Graduate School, will discuss “Managing Grants: Administrative Requirements,” and “Cost Principles for Grants and Other Agreements.”
The two-day class presentation I will start today from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the multi-purpose center.
On July 2 and 3, the instructor is scheduled to hold one-on-one sessions with course participants during a worksite visit.
Class presentation II is scheduled for July 6 and 7 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the multi-purpose center while the worksite visit will be held on July 8 and 9.
OPM training coordinator Maxima B. Cruz said they are expecting 33 participants from different government agencies in today’s session and 35 in the second session.
All government department and agencies were informed about the training and OPM is expecting that they will be sending their accountants, auditors and financial managers, Cruz said.
“Everything is now set for the training,” she said, adding that this will be the first training on grant managing this year.
This course will provide participants with detailed information about administrative requirements and cost principles they will follow, Peter C. Eche, OPM training director, said.
The course will tackle the recent significant changes to Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards, he said.
For grant recipients receiving funding under the American Recover and Reinvestment Act, Eche said the training will provide a needed boost in keeping important programs afloat during this economic crisis.
“The rules and requirements behind managing these funds are truly a work in progress,” Eche said in his letter to government department heads.
There are new eligibility and reporting requirements that will increase grantee accounting and oversight workloads, require modifications to information systems and strain staff capabilities, he added.
