The House of Representatives is separately scheduled to hold its special session at 2 p.m. to act on the same bill should the Senate amend it.
Rep. Stanley T. Torres, Ind.-Saipan, told the Variety the Senate did not act on House Bill 17-78 during its session last week.
The bill was offered by Rep. Ray N. Yumul, R-Saipan.
The government’s biweekly payroll is close to $3 million.
The recently signed Public Law 17-6 allows the governor to reprogram $10 million strictly for three payrolls beginning on pay period June 18.
If H.B. 17-78 is enacted into law, the central government will repay MPLT with new tax collections expected to be remitted starting next month.
In 2008, P.L. 16-7 was enacted to allow MPLT to lend $3.4 million to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.
Part of that money was used as downpayment for the $504,000 monthly rent to the U.K.-based Aggreko’s 15-megawatt containerized generators, which ended the daily power outages.
