CITING the government’s no tolerance policy for acts of sexual harassment and discrimination, the Office of the Personnel Management is requiring all government officials and employees to be familiar with the policy and procedure manual addressing these concerns.
Acting Personnel Director Juan I. Tenorio said the manual provides detailed guidelines for the recognition and handling of sexual harassment and discrimination incidents.
The Non-Tolerance of Sexual Harassment Policy and Procedure Manual, according to Tenorio, will answer many of the questions regarding sexual harassment and discrimination, and what actions should be taken when an incident occurs.
Since April, OPM has distributed copies of the policy and procedure manual to government offices on Saipan, Rota and Tinian.
The manual will also assist those managers and Equal Employment Opportunity representatives who feel that they are not sufficiently knowledgeable on how to handle a sexual harassment allegation, a situation involving employment-related sex discrimination, or a perceived sexually hostile or offensive work environment, Tenorio said.
“To gain full value from this manual, it must be read by all managers, and also by EEO staff who are involved in the EEO program. It must also be made available to all employees for their guidance,” said Tenorio in a memorandum.
OPM has also encouraged all departments to provide internal instruction to their staff concerning the contents of the policy and procedure manual.
