Green energy firm opens in Garapan

SAIPAN Green Energy Construction Company opened its doors in Garapan on Saturday.

Speaker Edmund S. Villagomez and Office of Grants Management and State Clearinghouse Administrator Epi Cabrera, representing Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, joined company owner Stacy Wang and business associate Joe Palacios for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the company’s office on Middle Road in Garapan, across from the Mobil Oil station.

Also present to witness the grand opening were Sens. Corina L. Magofna and Frank Q. Cruz, House Floor Leader Marissa R. Flores, Reps. John Paul Sablan, Vincent “Kobre” Aldan, Joseph Flores, Elias Rangamar, and Department of Public Works Secretary Ray N. Yumul.

Speaking on behalf of the governor, who could not attend due to illness, Cabrera congratulated the entire Saipan Green Energy team on what he called a milestone occasion — the launch of a business that promotes clean energy and innovative construction materials. He said it represents “more than just business success but hope for lower energy costs, energy independence, and a greener and more resilient future for all of us in the NMI.”

He then read the governor’s written message:

“The photovoltaic industry is not just a growing market — it is a vital solution. It is crucial to the future of our community and our islands. People across the CNMI are searching for more affordable, sustainable energy options, and your new company is stepping in at exactly the right time.”

Speaking in his capacity as OGM administrator, Cabrera added: “The opening of Saipan Green Energy marks more than the start of a new business — it marks a commitment to energy resilience, innovation, and community progress across the CNMI.”

He noted that OGM has worked closely with the company on several government solar power projects, including installations at the Susupe multi-purpose center, Tinian Public Library, and Rota Aging Center — all of which, he said, are playing vital roles in improving public services while advancing clean energy goals.

Joe Palacios stated that the company’s opening signifies a commitment not only to renewable energy but also to infrastructure development and the broader economic growth of the CNMI.

“Saipan Green Energy is more than just a business. It is a mission to build responsibly, create local jobs, and help shape thriving NMI communities — powered by clean energy and built on a foundation of integrity, quality, and sustainability.”

“We are proud to join the growing movement to diversify and modernize the CNMI’s economy. Whether through solar energy systems, resilient building designs, or energy-efficient infrastructure projects, we aim to be a partner in progress for government, businesses, and families across the Commonwealth.”

Wang said the reason she launched the business was the potential she saw — and continues to see — in the local community.

Despite economic challenges, she said, “someone needs to step up and provide real help and services for everyone.”

“My intention is simple: to bring new vitality to the community and make life more convenient and better for everyone.”

Wang said her company focuses on solar energy products and services because of the islands’ abundant sunshine — an energy source that can save people money and help protect the environment.

A 20-year resident of Saipan, Wang said she was also inspired by the resiliency of the local community.

“This is my home. My children were born here, attended school here, and grew up here. As a small business owner, I’ve shared some of the challenges our community has endured — from the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks and the War on Terror to two super typhoons and the Covid-19 pandemic. And yet, our people — coming together — continue to show remarkable resilience.”
