Guam employers to hold job fair on Saipan

Irene N. Tantiado, a workers rights advocate, told Variety that the Guam Contractor Association and other businessmen on Guam will conduct a Saipan job fair on Sept. 13 to recruit skilled workers.

American Memorial Park is the tentative venue for the job fair that will start at 1 p.m. and end at 5 p.m.

Tantiado said Guam Contractors Association executive director James Martinez informed her that they have ongoing construction contracts that need additional manpower.

They are interested in getting workers from Saipan instead of going to the Philippines, Tantiado said.

She added that the job fair is a rare opportunity for nonresident workers and even for CNMI residents.

The Guam employers are hiring carpenters, electricians, heavy equipment operators, structural steel workers, plumbers and other construction personnel, Tantiado said.

She said the Chinese community will send an interpreter to help Chinese workers communicate with the prospective employers during the job fair.
