The Guam Legislature’s Republican minority, in a letter, expressed their concerns to Bordallo about the recent visit by the Government Accountability Office which was tasked to study the impact of the Compact of Free Association.
Sen. Frank Blas Jr. gave the visiting delegation a $501 million figure which he claims the U.S. government owes Guam in reimbursements for Freely Associated State migrants who use government of Guam services.
The GAO is expected to complete its findings in September of this year.
The lawmakers asked Bordallo about her immediate plan of action or what steps she intends to take to address these issues.
Senators told Bordallo that they have already asked Gov. Eddie B. Calvo to not sign or commit to signing the programmatic agreement with the Department of Defense until commitments are given in writing to resolve uncompleted issues that include reimbursement for Compact-Impact costs.
