Cindy Hanson, Tammy Bamba and Christie Mehring-Cruz have formed the Guam Anti-bullying Organization.
Hanson and Cruz each have a son enrolled in middle school, who have been victims of bullying on several accounts.
Bamba, a catalyst to the formation of the group, said: “From my job and what I do, I talk to people who come in seeking help.” Bamba is a constituent relations specialist at the lieutenant governor’s office.
It was through Bamba’s concern about Cruz’s situation with the Guam Department of Education that she felt an anti-bullying group should be formed.
“Christie came in as a mom because she felt like she wasn’t getting enough help from GDOE,” said Bamba. “I heard her story, and I’m friends with Cindy, so we all hooked up to form this anti-bullying organization.”
While it may seem impossible to put a complete end to bullying, these women believe that being better educated and aware about the aspects of bullying is key to prevention.
