Guam’s Calvo appoints four Democrats to commission

The four are Sens. Judi Guthertz, Adolpho Palacios Sr., Dennis Rodriguez Jr., and Ben Pangelinan.

Guthertz said, “I will do whatever I can to help. I’m always available to do that. I believe my background in public administration might be helpful.”

Calvo said he is “excited to work together with the Legislature to fix the government’s financial problems,” also stating tax payers should receive their refunds by December.

The governor last week appointed Cruz as co-chairman of the commission. Cruz suggested the governor amend his Executive Order 2011-10 to place people from the business community and academia on the commission.

At his advice, Calvo amended the EO, now allowing for Democratic Speaker Judi Won Pat to appoint one member from the business community and one citizen from the academic community to the commission.

Won Pat  said she is working on naming two individuals and will make her announcement this week.

Sen. Frank Blas Jr., the minority leader, appointed himself and fellow Republican Sen. Tony Ada.
