Before lunchtime, the team for governor and lt. governor had handed out over 1,200 t-shirts to the throngs that turned out for the day at Civic Center Beach, with many more supporters continuing to arrive.
The event included food, drinks, a number of bands, cultural dance performances, and speeches in support of the candidates by community leaders from Rota, Tinian, and Saipan.
Young children also enjoyed the day with a bounce house, a coloring booth, a number of other games, as well as hot dogs, ice keki, and popcorn provided by the candidates and their supporters.
The candidates spoke to the crowd about their vision for the commonwealth.
During his brief remarks, Guerrero noted that their campaign “is not promising government jobs to people, and not promising contracts to companies,” but that “the promise we do make is to serve our community.”
“Although we don’t promise you a government job, we promise to help you find a job. We don’t promise government contracts to companies, but we do promise to make the commonwealth a better and easier place to do business. We promise an open and transparent administration and stand willing to explain and defend our actions and decisions, and do away with back room dealings.”
Camacho said he was grateful for the support demonstrated by the thousands of residents of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota who turned out for the day.
“It’s great to see so many voters here today, and we’re going to continue our house-to-house visits to talk to people individually to explain the issues facing the commonwealth that we are concerned about and to hear their thoughts and ideas. The number of people here today exceeded our expectations, and we are humbled by this massive show of support for our campaign,” he said.
In addition to the two candidates, Fred Deleon Guerrero, a House of Representatives candidate from Precinct 5, Vicky Tudela Guerrero, a House candidate from Precinct 1, and other candidates attended the rally and showed their support for Juanpan and Joe.
The campaign has drawn encouragement from and the endorsement of many individuals who had previously identified themselves as Republican, Democrat, or Covenant supporters, as well as the many independent voters who have aligned themselves with the team.
