Guerrero-Camacho ticket files candidacy

The first gubernatorial team to file was former Sen. Ramon S. Deleon Guerrero and his running mate, former Education Commissioner David M. Borja.

As of yesterday, only nine candidates had submitted their petitions of candidacy: Prudencio Manglona, Melchor A. Mendiola and Brian Manglona who are all seeking seats on the Rota Municipal Council; Calistra T. Pendergrass as senator for Rota; Paul William DLG Camacho as senator for Saipan; and Herman T. Guerrero as Saipan member of  the Board of Education.

The deadline for filing candidacies is  Aug. 10.

Gubernatorial candidates must pay a $500 filing fee and must show at least 200 signatures of registered voters who support their candidacies.

Former Senator Guerrero is expected to step down as chairman of the Retirement Fund now that he has officially filed his candidacy.

In an earlier interview, he said he would resign from the board so he could focus on his campaign.

The Fund’s board of trustees is scheduled to hold a meeting next Tuesday.

Camacho said their team is working hard to reach as many voters as possible on Saipan, Tinian and Rota to bring their message and platform.

“We’re working very hard. We’re meeting people. We’re visiting their homes. Meeting them in meetings. We’ve traveled to Rota and Tinian. We’re doing our best to communicate our platform to our voters and we’ll work hard. That’s all we promise to do when we get into the administration,” he told the Variety.

The Guerrero-Camacho team promises to bring economic prosperity to the islands if elected.

“We have solutions. We will implement solutions. Not plans. Not ideas but solutions to immediately turn this economy around and improve the lives of everyone here,” said Camacho.
