Guest worker missing

Irene Tantiado, a guest worker advocate, said Alex Matubis, 47, a native of Camarines Sur province, has been working for Castro & Associate Faxphone for 22 years already, and has just returned from the Philippines which he visited for a month.

“We are asking the community to make a report if they have information about Matubis,” Tantiado said.

His younger brother, Arnold Matubis, who works at Sam Electronics, said Alex Matubis departed Saipan on May 14 and returned on June 28.

Alex Matubis was last seen on July 28 at a grocery at Koblerville helping a lady carry a case of softdrinks. On the same day, he was also spotted at a remittance office with his pick-up.

Arnold Matubis said they have already notified the Department of Public Safety, but there was feedback yet from the police.

He said he noticed that his brother was behaving unusually a few days after he arrived from the Philippines. He did not elaborate.

“He has no girlfriend here. He is a good guy and has no vices. He often goes to church,” Arnold Matubis said.

The missing man’s belongings including his passport and other important personal documents, are still at his barracks,  Tantiado said.

Tantiado said she was told that Alex Matubis was acting like a “depressed person” since he arrived on Saipan.

“I heard he has a family problem and I think he left Philippines without resolving his problem,” she said.

Tantiado said the community members can call 322-8897 or 285-7717 if they have any information about the whereabouts of Alex Matubis.
