Hawaii Pacific Export Council establishes Marianas chapter

In his 2010 State of the Union address, President Obama announced the national goal of doubling U.S. exports in five years, which will result in the creation of two million new American jobs.

The Hawaii Pacific Export Council, which is affiliated with the U.S. Department of Commerce and works with the local U.S. Commercial Service Offices is comprised of local business leaders appointed by the U.S. secretary of Commerce to promote international market expansion within their local district.

The newly established Marianas Chapter will now be able to recruit new associate members on Guam and the CNMI, which will allow the Council to reach out to more local businesses on Guam and the CNMI to support their export activities, which includes tourism service providers.

To achieve local export success, the Council provides counseling and training to support a company’s efforts to sell their products or services like tourism internationally.

Casey Jeszenka of the Pacific Islands Small Business Development Center Network, which is headquartered on Guam, and Phillip Mendiola-Long of Sherman Consulting in the CNMI, have been appointed members of the Hawaii Pacific Export Council since 2009.

“Casey and I will be working together in order to identify candidates for official appointment as associate members to the Hawaii Pacific Export Council Marianas Chapter. Working with the Hawaii Pacific Export Council over the past year has been a great privilege and we want to thank U.C. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke for the confidence in appointing us to the Hawaii Pacific Export Council representing Guam and the CNMI,” said Mendiola-Long.
