Maganiel S. Yunting filed an administrative labor case against his employer, Sonic International Inc., claiming he wasn’t paid his wages totaling $11,043.84 as of June 2008.
A labor hearing followed with attorney Edward Manibusan representing Yunting while Sonic was represented by its president, Ikuo Yoshizawa.
On Oct. 6, 2008, the parties entered into a stipulated settlement agreement: Sonic agreed to pay Yunting his back wages starting with a $1,000 payment on Oct. 17, 2008 and monthly installments of $500 until the money owed was paid in full.
Sonic, however, failed to make its monthly payments to Yunting prompting him to report the situation to the hearing office.
At a subsequent hearing, Sonic said it was not making enough money to pay the complainant who then requested that the hearing officer enforce the terms of their 2008 agreement.
Cody ruled in favor of Yunting and ordered Sonic to pay its former worker $5,642 and an equal amount for liquidated damages for a total of $11,284.
The phone directory lists Sonic as a fishing company.
