High school course on marine fisheries and resources

The summer course will start everyday at 8:30 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. lunch break.

This year’s courses will include fish identification and bio-sampling, fishery data collection efforts, local and federal regulations and statutes, various locally practiced fishing methods, marine debris and the Clean Water Act, marine invasive species, benefits of fish aggregation devices, aquaculture, boating access and infrastructure, safe boating and seamanship, CPR and first aid certification, fish processing and handling, and coral and coral reefs.

The course will involve classroom settings, fieldtrips, and in-water activities. The course slot is limited and will only accommodate 10-15 high school students.
