Higher travel cost seen for Rota charter flights

The airfare may go up eventually, said Manglona, R-Rota, “and that presents a challenge.”

Airfare from Japan to Rota remains “stable,” however.

According to Manglona, Kinki Nippon Tourist Inc., the tour operator that brings in Japanese tourists to Rota, is seeking the help of the Marianas Visitors Authority to market the island in Japan.

KNT will need about $200,000 in marketing support in order for the Rota charter flights to continue, Manglona added.

KNT is the second largest wholesale tour operator and travel company in Japan with 305 offices throughout the world.

Since April, there have  been two Japan charter flights to Rota.

More flights are scheduled between June 27 to 30, on July 18, and on Aug. 29.

Recently, officials of KNT and Pacific Development Inc., another tour operator, have paid a courtesy visit to the members of the Rota legislative delegation.

KNT senior managing director Ochi Yoshinori, KNT general manager Yashiro Makoto, PDI president Matsumura Yoichi, PDI assistant general manager Takahashi Masanori met with Sen. Paterno S. Hocog, R-Rota, Manglona and Senate Vice President Felix T. Mendiola, Covenant-Rota, on Capital Hill.
