Hilario hosts first sound bath session at Aqua Resort Club

ASIA Hilario, founder of Saipan Sound Healing and Sagan Flores, a non-profit organization, hosted the first sound bath event at Aqua Resort Club on Saturday, Aug. 17.

Sound baths use crystal singing bowls and other pleasant, ambient sounds to aid in healing the “mind, body, and spirit.”

Hilario’s website, saipansoundhealing.com/, states that sound healing triggers the relaxation response, “which counters the many symptoms caused by chronic stress, while helping to balance our whole being.”

The event featured 67 participants and was at maximum capacity, Hilario said.

“This has always been my dream to bring healing to the islands,” Hilario said. “I didn’t expect to have it so soon, so I’m really emotional about it because it’s such a powerful modality of healing.”

Aqua Resort Club will be Hilario’s partner for future sound bath sessions.

Hilario said the class is for “everybody.” Personally, she enjoys the wholistic approach to healing featured in a sound bath.

“It heals not only on a mind level, but a body level in your soul so it incorporates all three,” she said, adding that participants can feel relaxed, lighter, and “more enlightened.”

James Kurygin, who brought Olivia Leung to the session as a birthday gift, said he was looking forward to the event.

“It’s inspiring to see wellness programs being introduced to the CNMI,” he said. “And this is the very first public sound bath healing. We’re very excited to experience some of that….”

“It’s more a meditative thing so I’m really into that,” Leung said. “I like yoga and anything that has to do with healing. I’m all into that.”

Cookie Cove Co. created special cookies with each participant’s name, while Hilario offered personally handmade sage bundles.

She invites island residents to try a session for themselves.

“It benefits everyone in the community, and even if they’re scared because it’s new, I would just go in with an open mind,” she said. “I challenge you to be a little courageous to do something new because it’s something that everyone should do.”

Sound bath sessions are held on Sundays at 10 a.m. and Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.

Rates start at $20, with discounts available. See saipansoundhealing.com for details.
