Event organizer Sharmain Casquero yesterday said the dance groups include Project Impact, L.O.S.T. Squad, Rock-a-Beat Dancers and they performed at the street market last week.
“Many were impressed with the performance of the young dancers so the Department of Cultural and Community Affairs gave us the chance to handle the entertainment program at the street market on Aug. 19,” Casquero said.
The entertainment at the street market each Thursday usually features cultural dance groups to give the tourists a taste of island life, and the locals a constant reminder of what it means to preserve their island culture.
“This Thursday, the public will be treated to something modern which is hip-hop dancing,” Casquero said.
She said they will be preparing hip-hop dance moves that will impress the audience and get them to dance.
“We have lots of talents among our young people and we are urging the community to come and support them as they show their dancing skills on Thursday,” Casquero said.
As one of the advocates for healthy dancing to divert the young people from turning to drugs, Casquero said organizing programs for young dancers and getting them involved in community events have been paying off, as evidenced by more dance groups that have organized over the past year.
