The funding is the continuation of the Historic Preservation Fund grant for the period Oct. 1, 2010 to Sept. 30, 2012.
National Parks Service American Samoa and Micronesia program manager Paula Falk Creech told Faisao that the funds “shall be available for expenditure.”
Creech said allows HPO to use the money for salary and essential operations cost such as electricity, telephone and water bills.
It also allows for contractual commitments on projects that must have National Parks Service approval.
The approval of the grants, Creech added, “is contingent upon the successful submission of a complete and accurate end-of-year report, final project report, and timely submission of grant application.
Grants manager and acting HPO Director Merti T. Kani in a telephone interview said she feels good about the availability of federal funds.
