Department of Public Safety acting spokesman PO2 Jason T. Tarkong said DPS Central received a call for assistance through 911 at about 10:24 p.m. on Nov. 17 regarding an incident in Chalan Kanoa.
Tarkong said responding Police Officer Daniel Quitugua saw the victim, a Chinese national, lying on the ground, with his right arm and chest bleeding.
The victim told Quitugua that he gave a local man a ride to Chalan Kanoa.
While driving on one of the secondary roads in Chalan Kanoa, his passenger suddenly reached for the ignition, turned the engine off and took the car keys.
The victim said his passenger then started stabbing him.
The victim escaped through the driver’s door and ran away.
He said while he was fleeing, his passenger got into the driver’s seat and drove away with the car, a gray 1995 Toyota Tercel with tinted windows.
The victim was bleeding as he yelled out for help. He was assisted by several people who called the police.
Tarkong said medics arrived and transported the victim to the Commonwealth Health Center where he was treated for his injuries.
The victim sustained stab wounds in his right arm and torso, including his chest, ribs and stomach.
Tarkong said police later discovered the victim’s car abandoned on Haiguas Lane in As Perdido.
He said the name of the victim is being withheld pending the completion of the investigation.
