Hocog: No to Aggreko extension

In an interview yesterday, Hocog, Ind.-Rota, said the administration should stop extending state of emergency declarations.

“What is the governor’s motive in these executive orders?” he asked. “Whatever it is I do not like to see another six months of Aggreko presence on island.”

The chairman of the House Committee on Public Utilities, Transportation and Communications, Hocog said he also wants to know why CUC “is so slow in even taking the first step to repair its power plants.”

CUC is either “moving at a turtle’s pace or really has no intention to expedite the repairs like what it earlier promised,” the lawmaker said.

He recalled that CUC Executive Director Antonio Muna promised them that  power plant will be back in shape by August.

Now, he added, Muna is telling them that CUC may extend Aggreko’s contract for another six months.

CUC pays Aggreko over $500,000 a month for the use of its generators.

If there’s no rehabilitation work being done at the power plant, Hocog said  Aggreko will definitely be around for another six months, and will prolong the people’s ordeal of paying the current power rate.

“The people should expect paying a much lower rate as soon as the Aggreko contract is over,” he said.
