Students will wear a small pin with an inscription “peace rules” and sign a “contract” obliging them to give up disrespectful language.
Patty Mendoza, one of the school’s counselors, said they will pursue the “No Stick, No Stone and No Dissing Campaign” during Valentine’s Day celebration.
Valentine’s Day, she said, should also be celebrated through kind words and showing respect to each other.
Mendoza said some students have been “casually” using disrespectful language with their classmates, adding that “probably about 20 percent of the student population” have used disrespectful language.
She said this problem can be attributed to family upbringing, television and the Internet.
But she said students are willing to build a better character.
“We want to see this no-name-calling period to prosper,” she told Variety.
After the celebration, Mendoza said they will evaluate its impact on the students.
