Hopwood prepares for Family Fun Night

“My WAVE Club was been implemented in the Public School System in collaboration with the Marianas Visitors Authority. We want to teach our kids how to be more presentable and learn how to get more tourists here. How we can go out there and share our My WAVE of Hafa Adai to tourists,” said Jonas M. Barcinas, Hopwood principal.

The club wants to raise funds so its members can travel off-island to meet with their counterparts.

“For Hopwood we’ve been doing it for the second year and we are working closely with the PTA, its president Victor Cepeda, and also other agencies,” Barcinas said.

Family Fun Night will be held on Dec. 19 and 20 and will feature  games and vendors.

Hopwood also plans to bring in different agencies like the Departments of Public Health, and Public Safety as well as the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.

“There will be informational booths where families can go around and learn more about all of these things. We will try to diversify the activities. We want families  to have a wonderful time on our campus,” he said.

There will be different entertainers from the community and the students  will also perform.

The school planned for a two-day event but there were suggestions to make it five, he added. “We want to bring rides here. We are thinking of how we are going to work with the mayor’s office and other agencies that will help us out.”

Barcinas would also like to invite parents to join the beautification cleanup on campus  from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Dec. 5. “We are asking for everyone’s support. Please bring your water and snacks and if you guys want to barbecue bring it along, too. Bring your equipment, anything that can be used for cleaning,” he said.
