He said they may have 35 to 39 students in one classroom.
“But we anticipate getting support from [the Public School System’s] central office to help address our need to run a smooth, safe, effective and efficient operation,” he said.
For the coming school year, he said Hopwood will have 1,293 students, a slight increase compared to last year’s 1,197.
Barcinas said the school is still undergoing renovations and will continue to request parents to help Hopwood by taking an active part in their children’s education.
“We want to be transparent to our parent community in all the things that we do or will do with our students so they can witness and participate in helping us improve the learning process and the school environment,” he said.
He said they always stress the need for a healthy working relationship between the school staff and parents.
“A school cannot function properly without harmony,” he added.
Barcinas said parents and students should take note of the following dates:
• Aug. 13 to present date — Basic list of needed school supplies are available at Modern, National and Dolphin.
Teachers will be giving parents other lists on Sept. 7.
• Aug. 26 to Sept. 7 — Mandatory school uniform will be available.
• Aug. 26 to Sept. 4 — Painting of classrooms, repairs and cleanup at school.
• Aug. 30 — Mandatory 7th and 8th grade students and parents orientation from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the stage area.
•Aug. 31 — Teacher Tea Party Orientation for all newly hired teachers at the Aqua Resort Club from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
• Aug. 30-31 — Special education training for teachers at the Saipan World Resort from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Sept.1-3 — Staff orientation and in-service training from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
