House commends ex-public auditor

Sablan’s resignation took  effect yesterday.

He holds an economics degree from the University of California in Los Angeles and is a licensed U.S. certified public accountant.

He is a former senior auditor for the Los Angeles-based Marder & Co.

In 1997, he served on the campaign committee of the 1997 Republican gubernatorial candidate, Pete P. Tenorio, who won.

Sablan was the governor’s special financial adviser before he was named public auditor in 2000.

Rep. Heinz S. Hofschneider, R-Saipan, sponsored the resolution commending Sablan, H.R. 16-45, which lawmakers adopted on Friday.

He described Sablan as “a well respected individual in the CNMI community” and a “man of integrity and honor.”

Hofschneider said Sablan remains an active member of many civic organizations in the CNMI and the Pacific region, which attest to his commitment to serve his fellow islanders.

“Mr. Michael S. Sablan’s hard work, commitment and dedication did not go unnoticed as he was recognized by the Pacific Magazine as one of the 25 Pacific Islanders to Watch,” the House resolution stated.

During his tenure as public auditor, Sablan received numerous recognitions, including an award from the South Pacific Association of Supreme Audit Institutions.
