Rep. Marco T. Peter, the committee chair, stated that the Department of Public Works has sent out a request for proposals and an invitation for bid relating to the landfill operation and equipment.
He said his committee wants to know the status of the RFP and IFB.
Peter said they also want an update on the contract between Tang’s Corporation and DPW that ended in October.
“What we are seeing now as a committee is that DPW allowed Tang’s Corporation to continue [operating at the landfill]. The RFP should have been put out last year, or maybe even a year before that.”
He said the landfill contract with Tang’s Corporation is $79,000 a month, on a month-to-month basis. “We need a timeframe,” Peter said. “Is it going to be for another year? Two years? We need to know because we are losing money. $79,000 a month!”
Peter said his committee’s inquiries regarding the landfill will be continuous.
“We are planning on bringing DPW next week, Wednesday,” he added.
Based on the Nov. 2019 memorandum to Aguon from the secretary of Public Works, an evaluation committee responsible for reviewing proposals for the landfill comprised committee chair Anthony A. Camacho, Greg Reyes from the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality, and Isagani Salazar, Crystal Cabrera, and Greg Reyes from DPW.
