The Senate is also expected to confirm today the nomination of Pai, who will succeed Michael Sablan who resigned as public auditor in July.
Pai holds a bachelor of science degree in engineering and a master’s in business administration from the University of Hawaii.
In 1976, Pai obtained his certified public accountant certificate from Hawaii where he began his career as an auditor for Ernst & Ernst, now Enrst & Young.
In 1979, Pai joined the Hawaiian Telephone Co. as an internal auditor and eventually became its accounting manager within a span of seven years.
Ten years after graduating from college, Pai moved to Saipan and ventured into the private sector as a sole proprietor certified public accountant.
He was the resident partner for the Saipan office of Ernst & Young, Certified Public Accountants, from 1990 to 2000.
He later became the treasurer for Chong’s Corp. and then one of the directors of Saipan Sunset Cruise.
He is also listed as a shareholder of Plexus International Inc. in St. Paul, Minnesota from 2006 to present.
“Mr. Pai’s extensive work experience in the field of financing and auditing coupled with his certification as a certified public accountant manifest that he possesses the vital credentials to serve as public auditor for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands,” states House Resolution 16-55.
Pai is also active in different charity and civic organizations like the Rotary Club of Saipan and the Saipan Chamber of Commerce.
