Saipan Independent Rep. Tina Sablan, the main proponent of the initiative, introduced yesterday House Resolution 16-103.
This will amend House rules to comply with the application of the Open Government Act to the Legislature.
The Senate has already adopted a similar resolution, which, among other things, details how sessions and special meetings should be conducted.
During yesterday’s discussions, House legal counsel Joey San Nicolas said members of the media have the right to be given access to the agenda and other public documents.
He said when the Open Government Act is applied to the Legislature on Dec. 7, 2009, regular sessions must be publicly announced at least 72 hours before they are held.
The House session will continue today at 9:30 a.m.
