In an interview last Tuesday Rep. Raymond D. Palacios, Covenant-Saipan, said Education Commissioner Rita Sablan or any PSS representative and MHS principal Craig Garrison must attend the committee meeting on July 6 in the House chamber.
Palacios said PSS and Garrison have ignored their first invitation last month, prompting the lawmaker to consider issuing a subpoena to the education officials.
But the other committee members, Vice Speaker Felicidad T. Ogumoro, Covenant-Saipan, and Rep. Ramon S. Basa, Covenant-Saipan, decided to again “invite” Sablan and Garrison.
“If they still refused to come, then, that is the time we can summon them,” Palacios said.
He said his committee wants to know what action PSS has taken so far in response to the complaint filed by MHS teacher James Yangetmai against Garrison last month.
The committee will also provide Garrison and PSS officials a copy of the video of the public hearing in which Yangetmai and others aired their complaints against the MHS principal.
“We have already heard the other side. It is now their chance to explain theirs,” Palacios said, referring to the education officials.
He reiterated that PSS should have addressed the issues raised by the complaining MHS teachers.
If PSS officials think they do not have to get involved, they can explain why to the committee, Palacios said.
